Greg Obis from Stuck is here to discuss their new album Optimizer, following Bob Weston in operating Chicago Mastering Service, his background in audio engineering and an internship he had at Electrical Audio, how Michael Azerrad’s Our Band Could Be Your Life helped him re-assess punk rock, explaining what mixing and mastering is via a cooking analogy, where Stuck comes from, recording Optimizer at Electrical Audio and making use of a 16-string guitar model that Steve Albini had had built for Lee Ranaldo, the Miku Stomp guitar pedal and sound design, pondering big changes and political possibilities, a nod to Big Black, internet frustrations, admiring Liz Pelly, and joining Subvert, shows Stuck played in Edmonton in Calgary this past May (one of which I saw), future plans, and much more.
