Ep. #1103: Jon Spencer

Jon Spencer returns to discuss his new album Songs of Personal Loss and Protest, making the trek to play shows in Canadian cities like Edmonton, the uncertain status of Jon Spencer and the HITmakers, how his new trio featuring Kendall Wind and Macky Bowman came to be and whether or not this band will have a name, the comprehensive Jon Spencer fan site, Pop Catastrophe, what it’s like playing in a band with/relating to much younger musicians, their tremendous musical knowledge and skills, writing these new songs collaboratively, digging into this fraught socio-political moment in time while also mourning the loss of loved ones, working with Deke Dickerson, American cultural erasure, marginalization, and Little Richard, exhibiting empathy for evil people, the artistic burden of doing promotional work that show promoters used to do, upcoming tour dates, other future plans, and much more.

Reggie Watts (2012) – Teaser

I recently shared a new conversation with the band Regulator Watts, so it now seems fitting to share an older talk I had with their distant cousin, Reggie Watts, the gifted comedian, musician, and actor. Reggie and I first spoke on Wednesday May 9, 2012, at 3 PM ET, ostensibly about his then new special, A Live at Central Park, but we also covered his comedic and musical influences, his interest in Canadian television, opening for Conan O’Brien on his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour 2010, which I saw at Massey Hall, a question from Nick Flanagan, a forthcoming television adaptation of the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast he was co-starring in, and other things too.

To hear this entire conversation, subscribe to Kreative Kontrol on Patreon at the $6 tier or higher (a reminder that an annual subscription includes a discount compared to a monthly one).
