Post author By vish
Post date September 22, 2026

Joe Casey from Protomartyr returns to discuss Hotel Usona, raising a family who enjoy visiting the zoo, how having a child can focus one’s once random anger at the world in hopes that things might improve in the future, the United States of North America and my perception of Joe’s obsession with Alberta, Canada, how transient hotels and 1950s exotica inform this new record, nostalgia for a phonier, more terrible time, the rise of democratic socialism in America and the trap of the internet age, horn sections as symbols of American patriotism, doing research and writing lyrics, bombshells and homophones, Iggy Pop’s love and support, upcoming tour dates, other future plans, and much more!

Jake Xerxes Fussell returns to discuss his new album, The Old Beloved Path, us meeting up at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival just moments before I took my daughter to see AC/DC, Jake’s limited experiences at big shows beyond Bob Dylan’s and a band he’d love to see one day, a lengthy discussion about “Rock Island Line” and The Compleat Beatles, contemplating aging and transience, the historical implications of musical interpretation and adaptation, why Jake would rather write a book than a song, working with Ben Whiteley, upcoming shows, other future plans, and much more.

Ep. #1050: Jimmie Kilpatrick

Post author By vish
Post date December 18, 2025

Jimmie Kilpatrick returns to discuss his excellent album Jimmie, the heartening experience of living in Manitoba, Canada these days and concentrating on his community, why he retired his Shotgun Jimmie name, bringing his sound sculpture work into his indie-rock aesthetic, collaborating with Ladyhawk’s Ryan Peters and messing around with tape loops, making subversive pop music, numerous lyrical references to analog and communication technology and falling asleep, keeping a little too busy, touring with the Burning Hell and alluding to Joni Mitchell, pondering work with John Samson Fellows, other future plans, and much more.
