Bocce
Bocce is a four-piece traveling beat parade that commutes out of Waterloo, Ontario. The band uses keyboards, more keyboards, fake keyboards, voices, drum machines, percussion and a rock and roll drum kit to create sounds. The band released “Hi Birdbear/Can’t Reason Do It?” in the fall of 2006 and have another album in the oven. They’ve played a bunch of shows including recent dates at Hillside Inside, Pop Montreal and Canadian Music Week.
The D’Urbervilles
Guelph Ontario has yielded some fantastic young post-punk bands over the years but few have created as much of a fuss as The D’Urbervilles. The Oshawa-bred group has mixed a scrappy sensibility with an earnest, empowering outlook that has fostered wise-beyond-their-years political anthems and a fan base of true believers. Winning hearts every time they pour all they’ve got into their live show, The D’Urbervilles latest album is a bold, blistering document of songs called We Are The Hunters.
Evening Hymns
Evening Hymns is the project of Jonas Bonnetta, a musician/artist/sawyer who grew up in the countryside not too far from Orono, Ontario and currently calls Peterborough home. In 2007 he released the album Farewell to Harmony under his own name and the Let’s All Get Happy Together EP under the Evening Hymns moniker. Spirit Guides has been recorded by James Bunton of Ohbijou, who has previously worked on albums by Forest City Lovers, Bellewoods and many of the selections from the Friends in Bellwoods compilations. Out of this Spark will release Evening Hymns’ debut full-length album Spirit Guides, in late Fall.
