I was very fortunate to meet one of my heroes, Jay-Z, hours before his mind-blowing show at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on October 31, 2009. He was at the CBC building for a segment on Q. I didn’t get an interview but Michelle made him mint tea. I was flashing the Roc in this photo but it didn’t make the frame. And no flash. Oh well, I never get photos like this taken but this was something special.

Just in time for Halloween, Toronto’s Jim Guthrie has unveiled a previously unreleased song about the perils of sitting down on bears. The playfully catchy “If Chairs Were Bears” is due to appear on the official soundtrack for the new film, When We Were Boys. The soundtrack won’t be out until February 2010 but the song is already available as a stream/mp3 download right here.
A documentary set at Royal St. Georges College, an elite prep school for young men, When We Were Boys is a film directed by Toronto-based filmmaker Sarah Goodman, and will open on Friday November 6th at the Royal Cinema (608 College St.) in her hometown. The film was received well after its world premiere at the 2009 Hot Docs Festival, and has garnered more attention thanks to its score, which was composed by Guthrie.
So yeah, check out this movie and Jim’s new song everybody.
