Ep. #53: Casey Mecija on #ProjectLiftPH + Jonathan Goldsbie on Mayor Rob Ford

Casey Mecija is a musician and artist originally from Brantford, Ontario but currently based in Toronto, where she gained renown as the lead vocalist in a band called Ohbijou. Mecija is also of Filipino descent and has been raising awareness about the devastation in the Philippines, wrought by typhoons Haiyan and Yolanda. On December 4, she and her sister Jenny, also of Ohibjou, are taking part in #ProjectLiftPH, a benefit concert at the Great Hall to raise funds for the stricken region.

Jonathan Goldsbie is a staff writer at NOW magazine in Toronto where he writes about politics, media, local news, and more. As the situation with Mayor Rob Ford and Toronto City Council becomes increasingly surreal and disturbing, Goldsbie’s twitter feed has been indispensable, as he provides biting, insightful coverage of virtually every aspect of “the Mayor” and his brother Doug have been up to.

Ep. #52: Tim Midyett of Bottomless Pit

Tim Midyett is a man and musician currently based in Chicago, Illinois. For 18 years he played in a beloved and prolific rock band called Silkworm. He and Andy Cohen of Silkworm formed a new quartet called Bottomless Pit in 2005 and they have released cool records sporadically ever since, including a new one called Shade Perennial, which is available now courtesy of the Comedy Minus One imprint and prompts them to play Chicago’s Township on Nov. 16. During our conversation, Tim and I discussed websites, Metallica, Lou Reed, the origins of Bottomless Pit and the end of Silkworm, the death of Michael Dahlquist, Neil Young and New Order, former Silkworm member Joel RL Phelps and the documentary Couldn’t You Wait? Ep. #51: Tim Heidecker

Tim Heidecker is a talented musician and singer who is one-half of the rock and roll songwriting duo Heidecker and Wood. Along with Davin Wood, Heidecker released a record called Starting From Nowhere in 2011 after the pair had established a rapport working together on the TV program, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! and also the film, Tim and Eric Billion Dollar Movie. Now they’re back with their sophomore record, a decidedly decadent affair called Some Things Never Stay the Same, which is out Nov. 12 via Little Record Company. Here, Tim and I discuss the sun, Heidecker and Wood and his earliest musical influences, the 1970s, sincerity, spirituality, air travel, cocaine, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, how comedy and music intersect, a new Adult Swim series called Tim and Eric’s Bedtime Stories, the song “Getaway Man” and much more.
