Todd Glass is a gifted comedian who originally hails from Philadelphia. Now based in Los Angeles, Glass is the host of the award-winning podcast, The Todd Glass Show, the author of the best-selling memoir, The Todd Glass Situation, and one of the most acclaimed stand-ups working today. He’s planning to release a new special soon, he’s filmed a pilot for a new show about camping with his friends, and he has a few residencies set up in 2017, including January 25-29 at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia, February 23-25 at Yuk Yuk’s Vancouver as part of JFL Northwest, and May 16-21 at Royal Comedy Club in Hopkins, Minnesota. We talked about a lot of that stuff. Sponsored by the Bookshelf, Pizza Trokadero, and Planet Bean Coffee.

Ep. #299: Jay Ryan

Jay Ryan is a respected and prolific screenprint poster artist who is based in Chicago, Illinois. He has been making screenprinted concert posters for some of the world’s greatest bands and musicians and festivals for over 20 years and runs his own print shop called the Bird Machine. He has served as vice-president of the American Poster Institute and hailed as a cultural hero by Time Out Chicago. Akashic Books has just published No One Told Me Not to Do This, the third volume of Ryan’s work, annotating and compiling selected screenprints created between 2009 and 2015. I first obtained one of Ryan’s prints when I went to see Fugazi, Shellac, and Blonde Redhead play the Congress Theatre in Chicago on Friday May 8, 1998 and collected two more of his prints on subsequent trips to the city in 2001 and 2006. I’m a fan; we arranged to chat about his work a couple of weeks ago. Sponsored by the Bookshelf, Pizza Trokadero, and Planet Bean Coffee.

Ep. #298: TIP ‘T.I.’ Harris

T.I. is an American hip-hop artist and actor who originally hails from Atlanta, Georgia. A popular rapper who also goes by TIP Harris, he’s known for being one of the earliest artists to bring trap music to the masses. T.I. has appeared in numerous films, including ATL, Roots, Ant-Man, Takers, and American Gangster among others and he’s also a published novelist. He’s also no stranger to controversy, aligning himself with artists like Iggy Azalea and Robin Thicke, and he’s been incarcerated on gun and drug charges for lengthy stretches of his adult life. His acclaimed, outspoken new album is called Us or Else: Letter to the System and it’s prompted him to tour across Canada, from Vancouver to Halifax, throughout January. I recently had the chance to speak with T.I. on the phone for just 10 minutes, which is obviously really short for this show but, because we covered some interesting ground about the United States and its social and political climate, here we are.
