John K. Samson is the singer and songwriter for the highly acclaimed indie rock band, The Weakerthans. On January 24th, Samson will release a full length solo album, Provincial via Epitaph-Anti Records.

The live dates will feature songs from the new album backed by The Provincial Band, comprised of Shotgun Jimmie on guitar, Doug Friesen (Pete Elkas, Bidiniband) on electric and upright bass and Doug MacGregor (Constantines) on drums. Samson will also perform a selection of solo renditions of material spanning his 20 years as a songwriter.

Mike O’Neill has announced the release of his highly anticipated new album, Wild Lines. Following his previous solo outings What Happens Now? (2000) and The Owl (2004), the former Inbreds frontman’s latest offering is available on February 28, 2012.

For the 10th year in a row, all proceeds will benefit the Canadian Cancer Society towards leukemia research in memory of my friend Sharon Marshall and we’re again collecting food donations for the Guelph Food Bank. Given how quickly it’s approaching, I ask that you please spread the word about this year’s amazing show as soon as possible.

Leonard Cohen almost brought me to tears when I saw him live a few years ago. Luckily I don’t have a heart. His new album, Old Ideas is out on January 31, 2012 and here’s a single for a new song called “Show Me the Place.”

I spoke to David Yow about Scratch Acid’s reunion activity in 2011, the Jesus Lizard, and his future in music. Interview conducted on the phone on October 14, 2011. I was at home man.

Emerging from Washington D.C. in 1987, Fugazi are my favourite band of all time and we’ve been lucky to have each and every member on our show at various points over the past six years. When they went on “indefinite hiatus” in 2002, many fans were puzzled by the terminology, even though the words belie the intent. “But so wait, did Fugazi break up?” Nope, they’re on hiatus. Indefinitely. Look, I empathize with you here. As Michelle and I enter into our own indefinite hiatus after working quite diligently on this thing of ours, I too am feeling somewhat uneasy about what pushing pause really means. I need moral support. And I can only think of one group of people who might know exactly what we’re about to go through…
